Rimini Hotel Fair 2003: Rooms For Tomorrow
The Rimini Hotel Fair 2004 invited us to partiipate in an exhibition on the theme of the hotel guest room.
Here the idea of serial production, a theme recurrent in the repeated module of the hotel room is linked to a mass production technique of the extruded element. The process of extrusion becomes a device in forming the shell of the room and the furnishing elements within it.
The inner skin houses the both discreet and pervasive technology-underfloor servicing, chroma jacuzzi, led lighting, sound proofing, with the minibar, safe, luggage rack enclosed in the long side-bench- itself an extruded element. The furniture arranged along the central axis of the room is defined by a central extruded core in pearwood which by the addition of other upholstery pieces -also extrusions- become the sofa, the bed, the bathtub, excercise bench or, when unadorned, a side table. The "high tech" fabrics for the bathtub- highly water repellent (by Qvadrat), the soft PVC flooring (Class Design) have been chosen to contrast with the more natural fabrics and materials of ther other parts. The common characteristic is that they all have the qualitites required of modern hotels: inflammable, hardwearing, hygenic, low maintenance etc.
Out of this project we extrapolated a series of design projects: the sink with cover enclosing the mirror, and led light strip and retractable tap, (developed with Makro) and a series of seating-chaise logue, sofa, bench with variable end cushions (later put breifly in production by SpHaus- "Punch" series).

Siamo stati invitati a presentare alla Fiera Alberghiera di Rimini una proposta di design di camera. Abbiamo sviluppato un'idea di produzione di massa dove il concetto di estrusione disegna tutta la stanza.
