Dentist Clinic in Sala Consilina (Near Salerno, Campania)

This small project sited on the main street of a small provincial town in southern Italy is a new building for which we were commisioned to design the main envelope, facade and ground floor for the Dentist Clinic. The lower ground and first floors are to be defined at a later date.

The challenge in this project is to integrate a new volume into an existing context of a petrol station and car showroom which projects a relationship with the the steet across the forecourt to the street running in front. The new facade embraces the whole front and allows the new intervention to be easily distiguishable from its neighbours outside the complex.
Internally the spaces are organised around an open courtyard to guarantee natural light and air in an otherwise blind facade.
The facade consists of a stone plane that has been unfolded to describe a virtual volume sitting at the roadside with a stone entrance ramp leading to the inner world of the courtyard which then is folded up to become its rearmost wall. The inner volumes and the roof plane are to be built in fairfaced white concrete.
